Horizontal Boring Mills

Horizontal Boring Mills were another type of Milling Machine sold by S&S Machinery. At the time they were importing a line of Machines from Spain made by Juaristi. These machines were of absolutely excellent quality. They ran fine straight out of the box. I only did minor electrical prep work on these machines. These machines had a headstock which could feed out a milling cutter horizontally for long distances to do line boring. These machines were great for machining the bearing lands in split case gear boxes, or turbine housings. These are work pieces where you need a true concentric bore on all radial surfaces all the way through the work piece clear on out to the other side. When they acquired this line they brought over a service man from Spain to help set them up. His name was Xavier Orosco. The shop Boss was Spyros Dendrinos, and the foreman was Henry Gruber. We were all good friends on the job while I worked there, and I learned so much from these guys because they had decades of experience in this business.
